Chapter 12 : Evening
When drawing digitally, there are quite a few features available. Starting with the basic pen type changes, eraser, pen clarity and thickness adjustments, color adjustments, color filling, and the essential undo function.
There are many features, but among them, I considered the layer function to be very important.
What is a layer?
In simple terms, you can think of it as placing a new transparent canvas over a drawn picture.
This separates the existing drawn picture from the new drawing.
And later, you can merge them into one.
Just hearing about it might not make much sense, and you might wonder what's so important about it, but for artists, it was an indispensable feature.
By dividing the parts of the picture, it made it much easier to modify and erase later.
For example, suppose I'm working on a drawing with a single layer and need to make a change.
If I'm drawing a blue sky and the shape of the clouds doesn't look right, or if I've drawn a line incorrectly and can't undo it, I would naturally reach for the eraser.
I would use the eraser to delete part of the clouds to make corrections.
However, when I used the eraser, it would also erase the background behind it!
The eraser recognized the clouds and the background sky as one image.
This happened because I didn't separate the layers.
As a result, I had to redraw part of the background just to fix one cloud.
The layer function helped prevent such situations.
On Layer 1, I would draw the fresh sky, and on Layer 2, I would add the clouds to decorate that sky.
This way, even if there was a cloud I didn't like, I could erase just the cloud.
The eraser could distinguish between the two layers, making it possible.
Anyway, dividing layers into finer sections made modifications tens of times easier.
Not only that, but I could also use the layer show/hide function to hide unnecessary drawings, such as rough sketches or lines drawn to set the composition.
If everything was separated by layers, it became easier to modify.
Layer division was the best.
'In the past, there must have been only one canvas.'
Since it wasn't the digital age, it wouldn't have been possible to use the conveniences of modern civilization like we do now.
Layer division, undo functions, color filling—all would have had to be done manually.
"Oh, shit."
Just thinking about it made me curse naturally.
I was genuinely thankful that I wasn't born in the past.
Respect to the people of the old days.
...Alright, enough nonsense.
Anyway, I was drawing now.
The subject of the drawing was reverse rape—according to my standards, it was just rape material, but I'll call it by the Roman term.
It was a picture requested by a client a few hours ago.
The composition was of a man forcing a woman to undress in a secluded alleyway... a scene I had drawn a few times in the other world as well.
Since coming here, I had only been drawing crappy stuff, but this time, I was drawing something to my taste.
"It's been a while since I drew a two-shot."
The reason was that the drawing included a woman!
Until now, I had only been drawing shitty pictures.
Harsh pictures with only male shots.
Although it had only been 6 or 7 days since I fell here, it was enough to wear down my spirit.
In that situation, it was a picture of a woman. How could I not be happy?
It felt like finding a small oasis in the desert.
Thanks to that, the work progressed quite quickly. I had been sitting and drawing for about 6 hours, and most of the work was already done.
From rough sketches to line drawing, and from line drawing to coloring.
Now, I just needed to add some shading and a bit of detail to complete it.
It had been a while since I drew a picture I liked, so the focus on the woman might be a bit strong...
'Well, they'll understand.'
Anyway, I drew as the client wanted. I hoped the client would be satisfied.
'Let's stop here for today.'
With that thought, I put down the tablet pen.
Today was enough.
I had already spent 6 hours concentrating, and it was already past midnight. Moreover, I had to go to university tomorrow.
"Ugh..."
I stretched my arms wide and got up from my seat.
The drawing seemed like it would be completed by tomorrow. There wasn't much work left, so it would be finished quickly with a little more time.
So, I decided to finish it tomorrow and thought briefly about tomorrow's classes.
Then, the memory of 'Lee Se-won' came to mind.
(Lee Se-won): There's a major class at 1 PM.
"Oh."
It was great.
For once, it wasn't a 9 AM class.
I had been struggling to wake up around 8 AM in the morning, but fortunately, I could wake up late tomorrow.
Even more surprisingly.
Tomorrow was Friday!
If I just went to school tomorrow, I could laze around at home like a bum.
The thought made me so happy that I almost shed tears.
"Sniff."
What a tough week it had been.
Suddenly, the internet was flooded with gay images, and I ended up drawing naked male characters, and I even had to go to a school that wasn't on my schedule and suffer mental abuse.
But that was all over now!
If I just endured tomorrow, I could spend at least two days like a bum!
This was what sex was all about. What else was there to sex but sleeping in and waking up late?
Even in a tough daily life, having such small joys was sex.
Thanks to that, I fell asleep feeling good for the first time in a long while.
"Zzz..."
*
Morning came.
The alarm I set for around 12 o'clock rang loudly.
I opened my eyes wide and got up.
"Early bird wake-up!"
It wasn't early morning, but since the world revolved around me, it was morning for me.
Perhaps because I had a good night's sleep, my mind was quite clear.
Good. In this state, I wouldn't doze off in class and come home to collapse and sleep.
I ate a quick meal, took a light shower, and went outside.
The streets were moderately quiet. Everyone had either gone to school or work.
Thanks to that, the subway was quite spacious.
Originally, it was packed with people, making it as hard to get a seat as finding a star in the sky, but now there were so many seats that I could sit anywhere.
It was a reward for avoiding rush hour. I sat comfortably in a seat.
"Phew..."
This was the feeling.
The feeling of being able to sit comfortably with empty seats on both sides.
During rush hour, it wasn't like I was squeezed in on both sides.
I enjoyed the sense of liberation and spread my legs a bit. Not quite to the level of the so-called "spread-leg man," but almost.
It was a nuisance made possible by the spacious seats.
Then, suddenly, I felt a gaze.
"...?"
The gaze was coming from the front.
When I looked forward, I saw two women who seemed to be friends openly looking at me.
Mainly at my lower half.
'Hmm.'
I was wearing shorts. Shorts of a length that revealed about half of my thighs.
But it seemed there was a point of attraction somewhere. Their gazes were quite intense. So much so that they didn't notice I was looking at them.
'Really, you never know.'
Honestly, being looked at didn't feel bad, but to surprise them a bit, I slightly moved my foot.
Thud!
"...!"
"...Cough! Cough!"
When I stomped hard on the ground, the girls flinched and turned their gazes away.
Their surprised expressions were somehow cute, and I couldn't help but smirk.
It seemed my current appearance was decent. In fact, it wasn't just them who looked at me during rush hour.
Almost every time during rush hour, there were glances from passing women.
It seemed my appearance was indeed decent. That's why passersby were looking, I supposed.
'But why don't I have any friends...?'
As that thought crossed my mind, the memory of 'Lee Se-won' suddenly popped up.
(Lee Se-won): I drove them all away.
Show-off.
Thanks to him, I was left alone feeling awkward. Thanks, buddy.
Moreover, groups had already formed, making it difficult to join. Originally, like 'Lee Se-won,' I had a personality that tended to snap at many people, so I was hesitant to approach first.
In the end, would I continue to spend my university life lonely? As I was thinking that, someone came to mind.
Lee Eunbyeol.
She was someone I had met for the first time yesterday but had already become close enough to exchange contact information due to her unique friendliness.
She was the only girl I knew at the university.
'What does she think?'
I was still curious. It was a behavior pattern that I couldn't understand at all.
I wondered if she approached me just because of my appearance, but that didn't seem to be the case... There were plenty of guys better-looking than me.
Originally, with a face like hers, she could have turned down most guys.
As I was thinking that,
I had already arrived at my destination.
I stopped thinking and decided to get up.
Anyway, it was a problem that wouldn't be solved by thinking. At least I had made one acquaintance at the university.
I decided to be satisfied with that for now.
'But will she be there today?'
Since she was from a different department, it wouldn't be easy to meet her.
Moreover, I had an afternoon class today, so I had come to school late. It seemed difficult to meet her today.
As I was thinking that,
"Oh? Oppa!"
As I entered the university, someone called me.
It was Lee Eunbyeol. The very person I had been thinking about just now.
She ran over, shaking her indigo hair.
"Did you just arrive?"
"Ah, uh..."
"I see you have an afternoon class. I just finished one class and was on my way home."
As soon as she saw me, she approached me in a friendly manner. Her smiling face was beautiful.
It seemed she had a morning class. She must have seen me on her way home right after her class ended.
It was a bit regrettable that we only met briefly, but I accepted it as it was.
Honestly, I didn't know if I would be able to meet her today.
As I was thinking that and about to say goodbye and wish her a safe trip home,
"By the way, do you only have one class to attend today?"
she asked.
"Yeah, that's right?"
I replied. Strictly speaking, I had to finish the drawing at home, but I didn't need to mention that.
I was curious about the intention behind her question, so I asked,
"But why?"
"Then..."
Eunbyeol paused for a moment before speaking.
"Would you like to have a drink with me in the evening?"
